This is the design I drew for the wall (460 x 280m) in Brockwell Passage, A2 size.
This was the wall before I started. There was a big problem with tagging, rubbish, and public urination.
I started off by pressure washing the wall to get off any dirt and flaking paint.
After the wall had dried out, I started painting on layers of gesso.
After 3 layers had been added and dried, I started drawing the outline using Liquitex acrylic paint pen. I chose to freehand it to keep the lines dynamic.
I used Liquitex acrylic soft and hard body paint as well as Liquitex Acrylic spray paint.
A bit of improvisation, adding the man in white, who is the man living upstairs above the wall and always wears white. His nickname is Mr.White and he wanted to be in the mural.
Young assistants! Some local kids wanted to help so I set them to work.
Finally finished!
Varnishing with anti graffiti cover, which adds a protective film that separated the paint from dirt and tagging (which can be washed off leaving the mural in tact).
A metal worker added a bench.
And Herne Hill Forum added a plaque.
The local school had a logo competition and the winner added their logo to the wall.
Lanterns were hung and switched on during a community event to open the passage.
